Largo do Mercado, as the entire intervention center, according to our proposal, was treated as the joint piece of all its surrounding elements, generally respecting the previously plan in which this work is based. The following points should be focused:
– Area adjustment trough a perfect rectangle character, emphasized by the pavement’s orthogonal design.
– Extension of the existing archway in the North buildings, extending it to the new proposal, in the Guiné’s street disunion.
– Square’s definition as a wide area (mainly built as the top of a public car parking) equipped with a restrict number of architectonical and landscape equipments, contributing to the above mentioned orthogonal pavement arrangement.
– Creation of a tree barrier, to the North and West, leading to a clear square framework.
– Conception of the buildings that separate the square from Guiné Street using a glassy basis through the use of galleries and voids.
The exterior spaces were arranged with a prevailing attention to pedestrians. Nevertheless, the existence of a vehicle access way and resident parking spaces was foreseen, its capability depending on the local characteristics.
Though different, the several buildings follow rules that guided their design, being four of them composed by a commercially directed ground floor, underground car parking and housing floors, and the fifth one strictly for offices
