Centro Coordenador Transportes Abrantes

The project involved the internal streets’ circulation plan of long distance and suburban buses, in the one hand, and of the urban transports, cabs and private vehicles, in the other hand, including the study of its connection with the national road, with the projected middle city circular, including a proposal for the alteration of its outlines and, plus, with the local urban roads.

According with what was established and stated in the ideas competition for the solution of the Abrantes’ Transports Coordination Center, it involves two main areas: one attached to the marked terrain’s slope and another to the necessary functionality of this type of equipment, moreover, defined in the program that informed the competition.

Therefore, the solution lies in a two-floor building where the top is intended for the public areas, ticket offices, cafeteria and restaurant, administrative services and facilities related with the dealerships, while the lower end is intended for the bus platform, the pear inspector’s office and small storehouses.

In functional terms, the “crossroads” between users and buses are avoided, inasmuch as: the users circulate through a high level platform of car parking places and of departure and arrival of users using cabs or urban bus, that gives access, through a bridge, to the upper station floor; the non urban buses have access to the lower level platform. The users have access to the platform through two large staircases and lift.
