Drafting of the Execution Project for Architecture and Engineering Specialties for Building 4B at the Gambelas Campus

University of the Algarve

The project proposes the construction of Building 4B, intended for the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve, in the field of Computer Engineering, on the Gambelas Campus. The chosen location is at the heart of the campus, adjacent to the Pedagogical Complex, naturally integrating into the existing layout and ensuring functional continuity between buildings.

The plot has favorable topography, allowing the building to be implemented with minimal intervention on the ground, resulting in an efficient, economical, and agile construction solution. Its central position ensures easy access for pedestrians and vehicles, as well as good parking availability, benefiting from all essential infrastructures such as water supply, drainage, and electricity.

The building is designed as a three-story volume, conceived to harmonize with the scale and character of the campus, establishing a discreet and coherent presence. Despite its formal autonomy, it maintains a functional connection to the existing Pedagogical Complex while also offering direct access to the outside.

The internal circulation has been carefully planned, with four vertical cores — one elevator and two staircases inside the building, and an external emergency staircase that provides access to the roof. All floors allow direct communication with the Pedagogical Complex on the south side, facilitating a continuous flow between spaces.

The building integrates naturally into the campus, respecting the existing identity while addressing contemporary needs of functionality and comfort.
